The world... according to ME

I already know that the world doesn't make sense... I just try to document it.

Election day

I voted today. I have voted in every election since I turned 18. I am 23 now... This makes me proud. I take my right to vote very seriously. I hope you do too.

I voted in 2000 when Bush lost to Gore.
I voted in 2002, and elected Governor Davis of CA
I voted again in 2003 to keep Davis in office, and Arnold Schwartzaneggar out. ( I resent the fact that people that were too lazy to vote the first time were able to undue the efforts of those of us who were not too apathetic to vote...) I voted against proposition 54, and Ward Connerly.
I voted in 2004 when Bush, Diebold et al counterfeited another election, disenfranchised more voters, and tried to undermine the integrity of exit polls and democracy. I lost a lot of faith in this country that day. It has not been restored.
I voted today, and I will vote next time as well. Be heard. Be counted. Vote.

Genocide...

Today's lessons are on Genocide.

For examples, see movies "Hotel Rwanda" or "Sometimes in April".

Genocide is the systematic killing of substantial numbers of people on the basis of ethnicity, religion, political opinion, social status or other particularity. The most widely known example is the Holocaust (the genocide of various groups, especially Jews, during World War II by Nazi Germany and its collaborators). Lesser known in the West are Stalin's forced starvation of Ukrainian farmers, or Mao's murder of 20 to 60 million Chinese.

The annihilation of most native americans by several means (such as the killing of the buffalo, for example) can also be considered genocide. Although such killing sprees also took place in most of the american continent (in some countries there is almost no indian population like in Argentina, where the genocide was sponsored by the goverment).

However, the term genocide has also been defined more broadly or narrowly, on the one hand by historians and sociologists and on the other by legal experts or diplomats.

Most generally, genocide is the deliberate destruction of a social identity.

The Rwandan Genocide of the 1990's

This is a list of massacres, modern and long past... Now would be a good time to reflect on the progress that humans have made over the last few centuries...

Get that man a passport...

You know, in light of recent events, I think that prez. bush should travel more... if non-Americans can be so much more honest than Americans, then let's encourage bushie to take an extended vacation abroad...

"Small bands of demonstrators threw Molotov cocktails, set bonfires in the streets with items looted from stores, burned American flags and set a bank ablaze. "

"Hugo Chavez, Venezualean president, condemned what he called U.S. imperialism while demonstrators opposed to the Iraq war and U.S.-led trade policies called Bush a "fascist" and a "terrorist."

Who run it?

Women who run shit!
(perhaps America is not as progressive as it thinks...)

And unrelated....

I can't wait until someone comes forward years from now, and confesses that Bush rigged the elections in 2000 and 2004, and has indisputable proof of his transgressions, and a clear chain of implications for many prominent Republicans. Then, someone else will come forward with evidence (once again, indisputable) that Bush knew before the war that Iraq was not a threat, and that he fabricated reasons to go to war. That will be a great day....
